As mentioned in our What is NielsenIQ and why is it important to me? article, Nielsen is the world's leading consumer intelligence company that provides insights into consumer behavior and market trends. Note that this feature is only available for our Premium and Pro subscribers, and can be found in your Tools & Insights > NielsenIQ Insights tab.
This collaboration with NIQ focuses primarily on emerging brands within the CPG sectors, in line with the RangeMe subscriber demographics. These brands may currently not be utilizing syndicated data due to their smaller scale or the associated costs. Through this relationship, we are providing small businesses and emerging brands with unparalleled insights into category performance and consumer behavior, offering a pathway to growth at an affordable price point.
It really does level the playing field for emerging brands to have access to the same data that many bigger brands and even buyers use.
NielsenIQ Insights
When you first load into this page, you will be greeted with a couple of options to filter the data based on category & subcategories and get more detailed information for those categories chosen. Additionally, you can filter between different Time Periods, and between Dollars vs Units.
All you need to do to get started is to click the drop-down lists to select your desired category:
On the chart itself, you will see there are two colors: Green for Non-Promo and yellow for Promo. These are based on whether a product is sold with a promotional discount or not.
Note: Please note that these are categories provided by Nielsen and may not be an exact match to RangeMe’s categories. You will only be able to select relevant categories for your brand. If your category is not listed, then it is not currently being tracked by NielsenIQ.
Once you have your filters set, you will see the data change between in the informational graphs and Category Sales box below. This is real data that is updated monthly so be sure to check periodically.
Understanding the Competition
When you continue scrolling through the NielsenIQ Insights page, you will see a section titled Understanding the Competition right after the data charts. This section will give you a glimpse into the brands that are the Highest Selling products, and the Fasted Growing products that are listed on RangeMe. These products are matched based on barcode so always be sure to have your information as up-to-date as possible.
Highest Selling means the highest unit count being sold, while Fastest Growing means the biggest percentage change in brand growth. Remember, these data points are based on the filters you selected at the beginning of the page, as well as the timeframe specified.
You can always learn more about NielsenIQ by following the blue Learn more from NIQ button at the bottom of the page, and by visiting their How to use retail data to gain market share page too.
